A court in Feni on Thursday sentenced a woman to life in prison in a case filed for killing her husband seven years ago.
Alongside, Shahnaz Nadia was also fined Tk 50,000, and, in default, she will have to serve another month in jail.
The court of district and sessions judge Dr Begum Zebunnesa handed down the verdict when the lifer was present on the dock.
Prosecutor Hafez Ahmed said the prosecution has been able to probe that Nadia was involved in the murder of her husband.
"We are satisfied in this verdict. With such verdict, none will dare to commit crime in future," he added.
The verdict has been pronounced based on Section 164, defense lawyer Ahsan Kabir Bengal said, adding that they will move to the High Court to get justice.
Sources in the court said businessman Kaiser Mahmud was killed on the road adjacent to the old Registry Office in Feni district town on April 11, 2014 when he alongwith his wife was returning home.
Later, his father Abul Khair lodged a case with Feni Model Police Station in this connection.
On April 13 of the same year, his wife Shahnaz Nadia was arrested in the case, and she gave her confessional statement before the court of then Senior Judicial Magistrate Khairul Amin under Section 164.
