Schools, colleges reopen after one year and a half

The government opened the country's educational institutions on Sunday after the closure of almost one year and a half due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In-person classes started at primary, secondary, and higher secondary educational institutions across the country this morning.

There was a festive mood among the teachers, students, and guardians because of schools resumption, and alongside, they also fear the rise of coronavirus transmission.

Earlier on September 5, the government decided to reopen the primary, secondary, and higher secondary educational institutions across the country on September 12 as coronavirus infections are declining sharply.

In the starting, the Primary Examination Certificate (PEC), Secondary School Certificate (SSC), and Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSC) examinees, and Class V students will attend classes every day, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni had said.

The students of Class I to IV, and Class VI to IX will be present at classes a day each week, she had added.

The government ordered all educational institutions to close on March 17 last year following an outbreak of the novel coronavirus in the country.

Since then, the shutdown has been extended on several occasions, and most recently it has been prolonged to September 11.
