A court in Pabna on Sunday sentenced a man to death for strangulating his wife to death and burning her body.
Condemned convict Alamgir Hossain, 40, is a resident of Bausgari village in Santhia upazila.
The district Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal judge Mohammad Walium Islam handed down the verdict.
The judge also fined him Tk 1 lakh, and acquitted seven other accused from the charges of murdering the housewife.
Sources in the court said Alamgir strangulated his wife Tazrin to death on September 17, 2016 after she had refused to give dowry he demanded to her.
Later, the condemned convict burnt the body pouring Kerosene on it.
On the following day, the victim's brother Sabuj Hossain lodged a case against eight people with Santhia Police Station in this connection.
