Awami League MP from Sirajganj-6 constituency and freedom fighter Hasibur Rahman Swapan has passed away.
He breathed his last at a hospital in Turkey early Thursday.
Swapan’s Personal Assistant and Shahjadpur upazila Juba League’s Convener Ashikur Rahman Dinar confirmed the information to Jago News.
Swapon was first elected to Jatiya Sangsad as a member of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party representing the now-defunct Sirajganj-7 constituency. He lost the position when he switched to Awami League party in 1998.
He was later elected to the parliament from Sirajganj-6 on 5 January 2014 as an Awami League candidate. He was also elected from this constituency in 2018.
