Woman gets life for killing husband

A court in Meherpur on Thursday sentenced a woman and three others to life term imprisonment for killing her husband in 2007.

The lifers are Safia Khatun, wife of murdered Alam, a resident of Hijalbaria village in Gangni upazila of the district; Khokan, from Joyrampur village, Mukul, from Shanker Chandrapur village in Damurhuda upazila, and Asadul from Faridpur village in Alamdanga upazila of Chuadanga district.

Meherpur Additional Session Judge Ripti Kumar Biswas handed down the verdict. 

The court also fined them Tk 10,000 each.

Additional public prosecutor advocate Kazi Shahid said police recovered the body of an unidentified man from Baliarpur village in Sadar upazila on July 31, 2007. The body was lying with hands tied, and it bored injury marks. Later, the deceased was identified as Alam, son of Hatem Ali. 

Sadar Police Station sub-inspector Shawkat Ali filed a case against 7/8 unidentified men in this connection.

The investigation officer Abdus Salam Mia submitted the charge sheet before the court on September 30, 2007. 

After taking the deposition of 15 witnesses, the court convicted Safia, Khokan, Mukul, and Asadul in the case.
