Councillor Morshed accused of killing wife

Tangail Municipal councillor and Juba League leader Atiqur Rahman Morshed, who was arrested a few days ago, has been accused of killing his second wife and concealing the body. 

His father-in-law Syed Sharif Uddin on Tuesday morning submitted a petition to the court of Tangail Senior Judicial Magistrate for filing a case against him.  

Later, the court took the plea into cognizance, and directed Sadar Police Station officer in-charge to investigate the lawsuit, said the court inspector Tanveer Ahmed.

Apart from him, eight more people were named in the case. They are Munshi Tarek Poton, 49, Parvez Khan Rony, 36, Sohel alias Babu, 27, Ontar Sutradhar, 27, Suma, 45, Lina, 40, Rafsan, 28, and Aynal Mia, 45, residents of Biswas Betka area of the district town.

In the case statement, Sharif said that Morshed picked up his daughter Pinky and married in June 2012. But a conflict created over the marriage as he had another wife.

On January 26, 2017, he along with his associates murdered Pinky and concealed the body, Sharif alleged.

However, police in a drive on August 19 arrested Morshed, the counsillor of 17 no. ward under Tangail municipality, from his residence in Biswas Betka area.

The law enforcers said they also recovered two foreign pistols, six rounds of bullets, and two magazines during the raid.

After completion of a three-day remand, a court sent him to jail on Monday.

Sadar Police Station OC Meer Mosharraf Hossain said Morshed provided different information about the recovered arms and terror acts during the remand in custody.
