Barishal city AL organizing secretary allegedly picked up

Two accused in the case filed over the attacks on Barishal Sadar Upazila nirbahi officer's official residence, and police have been picked up allegedly by the men in plainclothes.

They are Sheikh Sayeed Ahmed Manna, the organizing secretary of Barishal city unit Awami League and counsilor of Ward No. 26 under the city corporation, and Momin Uddin Kalu, a leader of the city unit Juba League and president of Barishal-Patuakhali Minibus Owners Association.

Men in plainclothes introducing themselves as the members of law enforcers picked up Manna from his sister's home at Dhaka's Mohammadpur area on Friday night, his elder brother Sheikh Masud Ahmed Rana told Jago News. 

Jago News contacted Mohammadpur Police Station officer in-charge Md Abdul Latif but he said they know nothing about this.

Meanwhile, Kalu was taken away by a few men introducing themselves as the law enforcers from his home at Ward no. 26 under Barishal City Corporation yesterday evening, his brother-in-law Arifur Rahman alleged. 

Barishal Kotwali Police Station officer in-charge Md Nurul Islam said Manna is no. 2 accused while Kalu 46 in the lawsuit lodged over the attacks.

Asked whether the members of law enforcement agencies arrested Manna and Kalu, he said they don't know anything in this regard.

Earlier on Wednesday, attacks were carried out in several phases on the official residence of Barishal Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Munibur Rahman over removing banner-fastoon pasted at the upazila premises.

Later, Awami League, Juba League, and Chhatra League leaders and activists clashed with police when the law enforcers tried to prevent them.

The upazila administration, and police filed two separate cases over the attacks. Barishal City Mayor Serniabat Sadiq Abdullah was accused in both cases.

Besides, more than 100 leaders and activists of different levels of Awami League, Juba League and Chhatra League were named in the lawsuits.
