The Detective Branch of police in Noakhali detained 12 alleged gamblers in Sonaimuri upazila of the district.
The detainees are Md Mostafa Kamal, Tajul Islam, Nurnabi Bashu, Sala Uddin, Mojib Ullah Shohag, Md Shamim, Abdul Gafur, Zafar Ullah, Shakhwat Hossain, Joynal Abedin and Azizur Rahman.
They were held along with cards and cash Tk 1.64 lakh from Bhabiapara area around 1:30am on Friday, the district Superintendent of Police, Md Shahidul Islam, confirmed on Friday afternoon.
The alleged gamblers were sent to Noakhali Chief Judicial Magistrate Court this afternoon, he said.
Saiful Islam, officer in-charge of Detective Branch of Police in the district, said a case was lodged in this connection.
Locals said people coming from different places of the upazila gambled in Bhabiapara area every day.
Apart from gambling, they consumed alcohol and committed illicit activities here, locals added.
