BNP men clash with police at Chandrima Udyan

A group of BNP leaders and activists locked into a clash with police in the capital’s Chandrima Udyan on Tuesday morning. 

The incident took place after 10am when the newly formed convening committees of BNP’s Dhaka city north and south units went to place wreaths at the grave of the party’s founder Ziaur Rahman.

Twenty people were injured in the incident, it is learnt. Police opened tear shells and in reply BNP men hurled brick bats at them. 

Dhaka city north BNP Convener Aman Ullah Aman said police opened fire and tear shells on us without any provocation. 

He demanded the resignation of the government immediately. He also said, their leaders and activists were obstructed on their way to the party’s programme. 

Dhaka city south BNP convener Abdus Salam’s personal assistant Shawkot Aziz said they were obstructed by police on their way to the Zia’s grave. Police also charged batons on us and our 20 leaders and activists were injured.   

In this connection, Jane Alam Munshi, officer-in-charge of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station, said they are trying to the situation under control.
