Pori Moni denied bail, sent to jail

A court in Dhaka has rejected the bail petition of actress Pori Moni and sent her to jail in a case filed under the Narcotics Control Act.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Dhiman Chandra Mondal on Friday passed the order after her lawyer filed the petition.

Earlier, police produced her before the court following completion of her six-day remand in two phases, praying to confine her in jail until the investigation of the case ends.

On August 10, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Debabrata Biswas granted police two days to question her, and on August 5, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Manunur Rashid put her on a four-day remand.

On August 4, a team of Intelligence Unit of Rapid Action Battalion raided the home of Pori Moni at Banani in the capital and detained her.

The law enforcers said they also recovered a huge amount of narcotics from the residence during the drive.

At that time, RAB's Legal and Media Wing Director Khandaker Al Moin said they conducted the raid based on some specific allegations against her.

In mid-June, the Dhallywood actress made headlines accusing a businessman of taking a rape and murder attempt on her at Dhaka Boat Club in Savar on the outskirt of Dhaka.

Amid this, she faced allegations of vandalisms at a few clubs.
