A court in Dhaka on Tuesday placed businesswoman Helena Jahangir, who has recently been removed from a subcommittee of Awami League, on a fresh 14-day remand in four separate cases.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shahinur Rahman remanded her for four days in the Telecommunications Act case and four more days in the fraud case filed under Pallabi Police Station.
Metropolitan Magistrate Nivana Khair Jessi put her on a six-day remand in two cases filed with Gulshan Police Station under Digital Security Act, and Special Security Act.
Earlier on Friday, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury placed the businesswoman on a three-day remand in a DSA case that ended today.
The Rapid Action Battalion on Thursday raided Helena's residence at Gulshan and detained her. The elite force said it also recovered foreign wine, illegal walkie-talkie, knives, foreign currencies, casino materials, and deer hide from her possession during the drive.
Later, RAB lodged the DSA case against her with Gulshan Police Station.
Helena Jahangir is a director of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce & Industries (FBCCI), and owner of 'Joyjatra Television'.
She was a member of the Awami League’s subcommittee on women’s affairs but the body has recently removed her from the post after her name came up on social media as the president of ‘Bangladesh Awami Chakrijibi League’ that is not approved by the party.
