Cumilla-7 constituency (Chandina) MP and former deputy speaker Professor Md Ali Ashraf passed away on Friday afternoon. He was 73.
He breathed his last around 3:45pm while undergoing treatment at Square Hospital in the capital of Dhaka, his son Muntakim Ashraf Titu confirmed.
He told Jago News that said his father was admitted to the hospital on July 2 to undergo an operation for removing gallstones.
Subsequently, he was also diagnosed with various complications, including diabetes, high pressure, and lung infection.
On July 9, he was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after had complained of pneumonia and breathing difficulties.
The veteran politician, however, became member of the parliament from the seat five times.
