Six killed, around 50 hurt in Moghbazar blast

At least six people were killed and around 50 others injured in an explosion at Moghbazar in the capital on Sunday evening.

The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately, and the causes of the explosion remained unknown.

The explosion took place in front of a showroom of Arong in Wireless Gate area around 7:30pm.

The fire service officials could not confirm whether it was any car's cylinder blast or any building's air-conditioner explosion.

The injured were, however, admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), and Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

Ramna Fire Station officer Faisalur Rahman said they recovered six bodies from the spot and the death toll might rise.

Meanwhile, a three-storey building collapsed in the incident, he said.

Fire Service and Civil Defense headquarters officer in-charge (media cell) Md Shahjahan Shikder told Jago News that 13 units of the firefighters were sent to the scene.

The fire service headquarters control room duty officer Ershad Hossain told Jago News they heard the news of an air-condition blast but some people said over the phone that it was a cylinder explosion.
