Bangladesh government has extended border closure with India for 14 days more as the neighbouring country's coronavirus cases and deaths are still in rise.
The decision came from a virtual meeting with Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen in the chair.
Sources in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the Bangladeshi citizens who are now in India for medical treatment, and their visa validity will expire within the next 15 days can only return home through Benapole, Akhaura, and Burimari land ports. But they have to take special permission to do so.
Earlier on April 25, the government decided to shut the border with India for two weeks from April 26 to May 9 in an effort to prevent transmission of the virus from the latter country.
Later, it was prolonged to May 31.
The closure, however, applies to travelers but import and export activities through the border will continue.
