A union parishad member was chopped to death by unidentified miscreants at Charchanda area of Shibchar upazila in Madaripur on Tuesday night.The dead man is Mithu Bepari, member of Ward no. 2 of Kathalbari Union and son of Tota Mia of Beparikandi village.He was president of Awami League of the same ward unit.One Raza Mia, son of Kalai Jamader of Charchanda village has been detained by police for his suspected involvement in the murder.Officer-in-Charge of Shibchar Police Station Zakir Hossain Mollah said miscreants chopped Mithu after Iftar. He was sent to Shibchar Upazila Health Complex where on duty doctor declared him dead.
