Former lawmaker from Lakshmipur-1 constituency M A Awal, who had been arrested in a case filed for brutally killing a youth in the capital's Pallabi, was placed on a four-day remand.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nibhana Khair Jessy passed the order after police produced him before the court, seeking 10-day remand in custody.
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members arrested prime accused Awal, also chairman of Islami Democratic Party, from Bhairab area on Thursday.
Earlier on Sunday, the miscreants hacked Shahin Uddin, 33, mercilessly in front of his six-year-old son inside a garage at Bloc- D in Pallabi over a land dispute, leaving him dead on the spot.
On the following day, Shahin's mother Alkima Begum lodged a case with Pallabi Police Station in this connection.
Aklima alleged that her son was killed by the local terrorists over the land dispute with former lawmaker Awal, also managing director of Haveli Property Development Ltd in Alinagar residential area under Pallabi Section-12.
Shahin was murdered as he obstructed grabbing a land of 10 acres worth around Tk 5 crore, she alleged in the case statement.
