Shailkupa mayor gets death threat from Pakistan

Barely two weeks into the crackdown against militants Kazi Ashraful Azam, Mayor of Shailkupa upazila municipality and President of upazila of Jhenaidah received death threat on Sunday afternoon.Kazi Ashraful Azam said he received a call from unknown number over his mobile phone in the afternoon when the caller threatened to kill him very soon.He said the anonymous caller told him: ‘We are calling from Pakistan and you’re finished recntly. You’re doing excesses…wait.’The Mayor filed a general diary (GD) with Shailkupa Police Station in this connection on Monday morning, said Sub-inspector Iqbal Hossain.Earlier on April 23, Prof Rezaul Karim, 58, of the RU English Department, was killed by miscreants in the city’s Shalbagan area.Besides, on May 2, militant outfit Islami Liberation Front (ILF) sent a letter to Natore Press Club threatening to kill 10 noted personalities of Rajshahi division, including the Vice Chancellor of RU, Member of Parliament, political leader and journalists.Besides, around 50 teachers of the university received death threat several times.
