Detectives arrested Mawlana Ataullah Ameen, Assistant Secretary General of Hefazat-e-islam and Joint Secretary General of Khelafat Majlish, from Mohammadpur in the capital on Tuesday midnight.
Lt. Col. Khairul Islam, Director of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Intelligence Wing, confirmed the matter.
Ataullah is accused in some cases filed in 2013, according to the law enforcing agency.
