Detectives arrested Hefazat-e-islam Joint Secretary General Mamunul Haque from Jamia Rahmania madrasa in the capital’s Mohammadpur at 12:50pm on Sunday.
Mahbub Alam, Joint Commissioner (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, confirmed the information to Jago News.
He said, several teams of DB jointly conducted drives and arrested the Hefazat leader.
On April 3, local people found and surrounded Mamunul staying with a woman, who he claimed to be his wife, at Royal Resort in Sonargaon.
Hearing the news, local administration and police officials went to the resort.
Later, Hefazat supporters launched an attack on the resort. They vandalized it and snatched Mamunul from the police.
On that day, a case was filed against 83 people including Mamunul over the attack and vandalism.
Apart from, another case was filed against 42 named people and 250 to 300 unnamed people over arson attack and cocktail explosion. Leaders and activists of Hefazat-e-islam, Jatiya Party and BNP were mentioned in the case.
