Two cases have been filed against 2,500 unnamed people in connection with the clash between the workers and police at the Gandamara coal-fired power plant owned by the S Alam Group and China-based SEPCO3 in Chattogram’s Banshkhali upazila.
Police and the power plant coordinator Faruk Ahmed filed the cases respectively accusing them of vandalism, attack and arson attack.
Shafiul Bari, officer-in-charge of Banshkhali Police Station, confirmed the matter to Jago News on Sunday.
Earlier on Saturday, five people were killed and 30 others injured in a clash between the workers and police at the power plant area.
The workers were staging a protest with some demands, including raising wages, reducing work hours, and alleged discrimination.
Police and district administration formed two committees over the clash respectively. They will submit the reports within seven working days.
S Alam Group authorities have announced to give Tk3 lakh to the families of each of the five deceased workers as compensation and Tk50,000 to each of the injured workers.
