JMB acting ameer Rezaul remanded

Rezaul Haque, acting ameer of banned militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), has been placed on seven-day remand in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Moinul Islam on Sunday passed the order after police produced him before the court, seeking 10-day remand in custody. 

Earlier on Saturday afternoon, police in a drive arrested Rezaul alias Reza alias Tanveer Mahmud alias Shihab Ahnaf, 37, from Badda area in the capital.

Later, a case was lodged against him with Bhatara Police Station under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

Md Rahmat Ullah Chowdhury, additional superintendent of police's Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime, said Rezaul was earlier arrested in 2005 over the bombings carried out simultaneously across the country.

After being freed from jail on bail in 2017, he again involved himself with organizational activities of the outlawed organization, the ASP said.
