Considering the rapid rise of coronavirus infections, the government is going to impose nationwide lockdown for one week from Monday, said Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader.
"The government is enforcing countrywide lockdown for one week from Monday," he said at a press briefing at his official residence in the capital on Saturday.
Later, State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain told Jago News the government is going to impose lockdown for seven days to limit the virus outbreak.
He said all sorts of government and private institutions, except the ones of emergency services, will remain shut during the lockdown.
The mill-factory can operate following the health guidelines issued to prevent the virus spread, the minister added.
Bangladesh government on Friday (April 2) reported the highest daily record of 6,830 coronavirus cases.
As of Saturday (April 3), the country's total infections and deaths stood respectively at 6,30,277 and 9,213.
Bangladesh first reported its COVID-19 cases on March 8 last year. Since then it has been struggling to curb spread of the highly contagious virus.
