Woman gets life for husband's murder

A court in Narayanganj on Wednesday sentenced a woman to life term imprisonment for her husband's murder by her lover and two others in 2019.

Additional district and sessions judge court-2 judge Begum Sabina Yeasmin gave the verdict against the woman, and awarded the rest trio death penalty. 

The lifers are Rikta Begum, 27, Atiqul Islam Atique, 27, and Mizanur Rahman Mitu, 24, and the condemned convict and her lover Rezaul Karim Palash, 30. 

The court public prosecutor (PP) Jasmin Ahmed said the court also fined Palash Tk 50,000 in a section and jailed him for three years with fine Tk 5000 in another one.

Besides, it fined Rikta and two other lifers Tk 30,000 each, and in default, they will have to serve two more years' rigorous imprisonment, he added.

Plaintiff Shamsul Haque said Rikta, wife of late garment worker Aminul Islam Kalu, developed an adulterous affair with Palash when she would cook for him as well as Atique and Mitu in their mess. At one stage, the lover assured her of marriage and plotted to kill her husband.

Accordingly, Palash in association with Atique and Mitu slaughtered Kalu in Kafurdi area in Sonargaon upazila on March 1, 2019 and dumped the body on the river bank, he said.

On the following morning, police recovered body, the accuser added.
