Poland striker out of World Cup qualifier against England

Poland striker Robert Lewandowski will miss Wednesday's 2022 World Cup qualifier against England at Wembley with a knee injury.

The 32-year-old Bayern Munich player limped off during Sunday's 3-0 win over Andorra after scoring two goals.

Meanwhile, midfielder Grzegorz Krychowiak and defender Kamil Piatkowski have tested positive for coronavirus.

The rest of the squad has tested negative for the virus, Poland say.

Two other members of Poland's squad, goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski and Leeds midfielder Mateusz Klich, tested positive last week.

The Polish FA have queried the positive result for former West Brom midfielder Krychowiak and have approached Uefa to request a new test.

Lewandowski, whose injury was confirmed on Monday, faces a race to be fit for Bayern's Champions League quarter-final first leg against Paris St-Germain in nine days' time.

The Polish FA said he faces up to 10 days out with ligament damage.

He has returned to Germany for further treatment on the injury.
