Five killed in Brahmanbaria clash

Five people were killed and at least 14 others injured in a clash among the madrasa students, police, and BGB members in Sadar upazila of Brahmanbaria on Saturday evening.

The deceased were identified as Badal Mia, 26, Jur Alam, 35, Sujan Mia, 25, Kawser, 20, and Zubayer, 20. It was learned that they were the activists of Hefazat-e-Islam but detailed identities could not be known immediately.

The incident took place in Nandanpur BSCIC industrial area on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway around 6:30pm.

Brahmanbaria General Hospital's emergency department doctor Abdullah Al Mamun said three died before they had been brought to hospital, and all of them were hit by the bullets.

Witnesses said the leaders and activists of Hefazat-e-Islam brought out a procession this afternoon. A chase and counter chase occurred among the party men, police, and BGB personnel when the procession reached Nandanpur area.

The injured are, however, undergoing treatment at the hospital.
