Fatal road crash kills 17 in Rajshahi

A least 17 people were killed and several others injured in a collision among a bus, a microbus and a human hauler in Kathakhali area on the outskirts of Rajshahi city on Friday afternoon.

Identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.

Golam Ruhul Kuddus, additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of Rajshahi city police, confirmed the incident to Jago News.

He said a bus of 'Hanif Paribahan' rammed into a microbus near Katakhali Police Station around 2:15pm, causing a blast in the latter vehicle. Then, the fire engulfed a human hauler (locally known as Leguna) stood beside.

Later, six people were rescued from the spot but all of them died on the way to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, the police official added.

Subsequently the bodies of 11 people were retrieved from inside of the microbus, he also said. 

The district fire service and civil defense deputy director Md Abdur Rashid said there were 13 passengers in the microbus during the incident.

Katakhali Police Station officer in-charge (investigation) Motiar Rahman said that they were confirmed 11 people lost their lives in the accident.
