Islamic scholar Rafiqul Islam Madani was freed on Thursday, hours after he had been detained from a protest programme against Indian premier Narendra Modi's Bangladesh visit.
Police also detained 10 other people from the programme held at Motijheel in the capital.
Juba Adhikar Parishad organized the programme. Some other organizations including Chattra Adhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad took part in the programme.
According to the source, a chase and counter chase held between the protesters and police when the members of the law enforcing agency obstructed them at 12pm. Police fired teargas to disperse the protest. In reply, the protesters also hurled bricks at the police personnel. At that time, Chhatra Adhikar Parishad leaders Tanzid and Subarna were injured. They were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
To be noted, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Bangladesh on March 26 to join celebrations marking the golden jubilee of independence and the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
