Bangladesh on Tuesday witnessed a sharp rise in coronavirus cases, with 3,554 infections were reported in the last 24 hours.
During the period, 18 people died from the virus.
With this, total infections and fatalities stood respectively 5,77,241, and 8,738, the Directorate General of Health Services said in a press release today.
Of the total patients, 5,25,994 recovered, with 1,835 made recovery in the last 24 hours.
The daily count came from test of 25,954 samples in the past day. With this, a total of 44,60,184 samples have, so far, been tested.
Bangladesh first reported its COVID-19 cases on March 8. Since then the country has been struggling to limit spread of the highly contagious virus.
Coronavirus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year, and then spread to newer countries and territories.
Till date, the epidemic infected 124,365,733 people and killed 2,737,388 across the globe, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.
However, total number of people who recovered from the coronavirus pandemic reached 100,352,132 across the world.
