Police detained 17 local leaders and activists of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir in Rajshahi city early Tuesday.
Golam Ruhul Kuddus, additional deputy commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police, said police from Boalia station detained 10 leaders and activists of Jamaat-Shibir from a house in Bornali intersection area when they were planning subversive acts in a meeting.
On information gleaned from them, the detectives and Katakhali police, later, held seven more Jamaat-Shibir leaders and activists, he said.
He also said the law enforcers seized a number of Jihadi books and locally made arms from the detainees' possession.
