Tarique sued for declaring Zia father of Bangladeshi nationalism

A case has been filed against BNP's acting chairman Tarique Rahman accusing him of declaring late President Ziaur Rahman father of Bangladeshi nationalism.

Zahidul Islam, deputy relief and disaster management secretary of Dhaka University's Dr Muhammad Shahidullah Hall Chhatra League, lodged the case with Ramna Police Station on Thursday under the Digital Security Act.

The police station sub-inspector L K Chowdhury confirmed the matter.

The case statement said Tarique Rahman made the accounement in a programme in London, UK organized on the occasion of the party's 41st founding anniversary.

In the statement, the plaintiff alleged that BNP's acting chairman Tarique Rahman is trying to distort the history of the country spreading confusing information on the father of the nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
