An alleged member of a robber gang was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with cop at Purba Shakharia in Banaripara upazila early Friday.The deceased was identified as Dulal, 35, son of Ismail Hossain hailing from Chandipur village of the district.Ziaul Ahsan, officer-in charge of Banaripara Police Station said acting on secrete information that a robber gang was taking preparation to commit robbery at the area, a team of law enforcers conducted a drive around 1:45am.Sensing the presence of police, robbers opened fire on police, forcing the law enforcers to retaliate.At one stage, Dulal member of the gang hit with bullet, leaving him dead on the spot.A police constable also received injuries during the ‘gunfight’.However, others of the gang managed to flee from the scene, the OC added.Later police recovered 10 rounds of bullet, two pipe guns, a machete, a knife and a mobile phone set from the spot.The body was sent to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.Dulal was wanted in eight cases filed with different police stations.
