Prominent banker Khondkar Ibrahim Khaled passed away early Wednesday. He was 80.
Khaled, also a former deputy governor of the Bangladesh Bank, breathed his last while undergoing treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) at 5:45am.
Prashanta Mojumder, Public Relations Officer of BSMMU, confirmed the death to Jago News.
Khaled had earlier tested positive for coronavirus infection and was admitted to Bangladesh Specialized Hospital on February 1.
He was later transferred to BSMMU.
Khaled also headed Bangladesh Krishi Bank as chairman and managing director. He served in Sonali, Agrani and Pubali banks as well.
He was the deputy governor of Bangladesh Bank from 1998 to 2001.
Khaled was awarded the Khan Bahadur Ahsanullah Gold Medal in 2009 and the Khan Bahadur Nawab Ali Chowdhury National Award in 2013 for his outstanding contribution to the banking sector.
