A court in Kishoreganj today sentenced a man to death and five others to life term imprisonment for killing a farmer at Bajitpur in Kishoreganj.
Kishoreganj’s First Additional District and Sessions Judge Md A. Rahim passed the order on Monday morning.
The man who got death penalty is Jewel Miah, son of Joj Miah, of Hilochia Boromypara village in Bajitpur.
The convicts who got life term imprisonment are Jewel’s father Joj Miah, 52, his brother Md Kakon Miah, 29, his mother Rahima Khatun, Md Mahbub Hasan Ranju, son of Joynal Abedin and Md Saiful Islam, 35, son of Mojlu Miah.
According to the case statement, there was a long dispute among farmer Md Siddiq Miah, son of late Ahmmed Ali and the convicted people over land.
On January 22, 2016, Siddiq Miah was seriously injured in an attack by the convicted people. Later, he was first sent to Johurul Islam Medical College and Hospital in Bajitpur and then he died on the way to Dhaka.
On January 23, Siddiq’s brother filed a case against the six people with Bajitpur Police Station.
On June 30, Md Nazrul Islam, Sub Inspector and the investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet against them to the court.
