Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday asked the Bangladesh Awami Jubo League leaders and workers to make the organization as an ideal one being imbued with the ideology of the Father of the Nation and patriotism, saying that politics without principles never exists.
“I want to say the Jubo League leaders and workers to make the organization as a strong and ideal one being imbued with the ideology of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and patriotism,” she said.
Addressing a discussion, virtually from her official Ganabhaban residence, organized by the Bangladesh Awami Jubo League marking its 48 birth anniversary at Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) in the capital, the Prime Minister said that politics without principles never exists, reports BSS.
Mentioning that the country’s democracy has been reestablished through many struggles and the Juba League has played a significant role in all the movements, she hoped that the Juba League leaders would work for the welfare of the people keeping Bangbabandhu’s ideology in their hearts.
She reminded the Jubo League leaders that those doing politics for making their own fortunes by acquiring some quick bucks would not exist in politics for a long time, on the other hand, those doing politics for the people’s welfare would survive as it is the correct way of doing politics.
In this connection, the Prime Minister said that those who captured power by violating the country’s constitution after assassination of Father of the Nation along with most of his family members on August 15,1975, were busy to make their own fortunes and did nothing for the people.
“So, they have no existence in the hearts of people,” she continued.
The premier said, similarly the people of the country have boycotted the BNP though (former chairperson of BNP) Khaleda Zia and her son Tarique Rahman have made huge money through illegal means and thought the money would help them to hang onto power.
Former Jubo League leaders, Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, MP, Awami League Presidium Member Advocate Jahangir Kabir Nanak, its Organising Secretary Mirza Azam, MP, and Harunur Rashid, spoke at the meeting.
Jubo League Chairman Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash presided over the meeting while its General Secretary Mainul Hossain Nikhil moderated it.
Eminent cultural personality Jayanta Chattopadhyay recited a poem on Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
A video documentary was screened on the humanitarian and organizational activities of the Bangladesh Awami Jubo League since its new committee took its charges on the occasion.
At the outset of the discussion, a minute’s silence was observed at the function as a mark of respect to the memory of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and other martyrs of the August 15, 1975 carnage, martyrs of the Language Movement, Liberation War and all the democratic and progressive movements.
Describing the youths as the future of the country, Sheikh Hasina said that the nation would have to march forward toward the development and prosperity by utilizing the power of youths and it is the reality.
To this end, the Prime Minister said, “The youths have brought Bangladesh’s independence. Under the leadership of the Father of the Nation, the youths had always played a pioneering role in all the movements. So, Bangladesh will move forward in the hands of the young generation.”
In the election manifesto of 2018, the Bangladesh Awami League had mentioned “Power of Youths, Prosperity of Bangladesh” as they consider youths as the assets of the country and that is the high time to give maximum efforts in nation building activities.
The Prime Minister asked the Jubo League leaders and activists to stand beside the people in their bad days instead of chanting slogans.
Sheikh Hasina said that her government has been implementing programmes to prepare the young generation by providing them with proper education, training and other facilities so that they could be skilled manpower and entrepreneurs.
Highlighting various measures taken by her government such as setting up 100 economic zones, high-tech parks and digital centres, formulating the perspective plan (2021-2041) and Delta Plan-2100, she said, “I know 12 years is nothing for the development of a nation. But, the way we are working for the country, Bangladesh will definitely be a developed and prosperous country.”
The Prime Minister once again took a vow to materialize the dream of the Father of the Nation by making Bangladesh a prosperous and developed country free from poverty, hunger and communalism.
She said her government is committed to give home to every homeless and landless people of the country marking the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman aimed at giving the countrymen an improved life.

Regarding vaccination, Sheikh Hasina said that measures would have to be taken to remove fear from the people’s mind about the Covid-19 vaccine and inoculate all above 40 years.
She called upon all to maintain the health guidelines including wearing facemasks and washing hands even after taking vaccine.
The premier asked the Jubo League leaders and workers to keep a constant vigil to pursue the health guidelines.
Criticizing those who said Bangladesh would not get the Covid-19 vaccine, she said vaccination has already started in Bangladesh despite the fact that many developed countries are yet to get the vaccine.
“Many people have said Bangladesh would not get vaccine. I did not look for any alternative as the lives of people matter to me. I have made a separate allocation of Taka 1000 crore to this end. We have made payment in advance as Bangladesh will get the vaccine first when it is ready for vaccination,” she added.
