An independent candidate in Madaripur's Kalkini municipality election returned home early Sunday, 13 hours after he had gone missing.
The mayor candidate, Moshiur Rahman Sabuj, returned home around 3:30am, said his relatives and supporters.
Sabuj alleged that he was picked by police to Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader who asked him to work for the party candidate and quit the election race.
In response, he does not belong to Awami League, and is contesting this polls with support of people, he added.
He also said he later came back home on a relative's car.
Earlier on Saturday afternoon, Kalkini Police Station officer in-charge Md Nasir Uddin Mridha picked up Sabuj during his campaign in Palpara area. Since then, he was missing.
Soon after the news spread, his supporters gheraoed the police station and staged demonstration there burning tyre, disrupting vehicular movement on Kalkini-Bhurghata and Kalkini-Madaripur road.
A clash ensued after the supporters of AL backed candidate equipping with locally made arms attacked the ones of Sabuj, leaving at least 20 injured.
