Lowest Covid deaths in 8 and a half months

Bangladesh on Wednesday reported eight deaths from coronavirus, the lowest fatality in last eight and a half month. 

With this, the country's death toll stood at 7,950, the Directorate General of Health Services said in a press release on Wednesday.

During the period, 656 more people were diagnosed with the virus, raising the total infection to 5,29,687. 

Of the total patients, 4,74,472 recovered, with 617 made recovery in the last 24 hours.

The daily count came from test of 15,410 samples in the past day. With this, a total of 35,00,667 samples have, so far, been tested.  

Bangladesh first reported its COVID-19 cases on March 8. Since then the country has been struggling to limit spread of the highly contagious virus.

Coronavirus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year, and then spread to newer countries and territories.

Till date, the epidemic infected 96,715,927 people and killed 2,068,062 across the globe, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.

However, total number of people who recovered from the coronavirus pandemic reached 69,410,766 across the world.
