A tribunal in Sylhet has framed charges against eight activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) in a case filed over the gang-rape of a woman at Murari Chand (MC) College hostel in Sylhet.
Sylhet Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Md Mohitul Haque framed the charges against them on Sunday.
Rashida Syeda Khanam, Special Public Prosecutor of the tribunal, confirmed the matter to Jago News.
Earlier on December 3, last year, Sub-inspector Indranil Bhattacharya, also investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet to Sylhet Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Abul Kashem’s court.
The accused are Saifur Rahman (28), Shah Mahbubur Rahman Rony (25), Tarekul Islam (28), Arjun Laskar (26), Mohammad Ainuddin alias Ainul (26), Misbaul Islam Rajon (27), Rabiul Hasan (25) and Mahfuzur Rahman Masum (25).
A group of youths tied up a man and raped his 19-year-old wife at a dormitory of MC College on September 25.
After police rescued the couple, the victim’s husband filed a case with Shahporan police station against nine people mentioning the names of six.
