A case has been filed over the death of a schoolgirl after rape in capital Dhaka's Kalabagan area.
Tanveer Iftekhar Dihan, one of the victim's friends, has been made lone accused in the lawsuit lodged with Kalabagan Police Station.
"The student's father filed a case last night accusing Tanveer Iftekhar Dihan, 18, on charge of rape and murder, the police station officer in-charge AFM Asaduzzaman told Jago News.
Police are also looking into whether anyone else has connection with the incident, he said, adding that as part of it, three friends of Dihan were detained to question over the event.
The official said Anwar Khan Modern Medical College Hospital authorities on Thursday afternoon informed police that a teenage boy had brought a teenage girl to the facility dead.
During that police requested the hospital authorities to hold the teenage boy, and later the law enforcers detained his three friends as the trio came to the hospital after being informed about the schoolgirl's death.
The body, however, was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue.
Police's New Market Zone senior assistant commissioner Abul Hasan said detained Dihan told them that he took the victim to their flat at Dolphin Lane when other family members were outside.
At one stage, he have had intercourse with the girl but after a while she became unconscious. Then, she has been rushed to Anwar Khan Medical College Hospital, he claimed to police, Abul Hasan added.
The police official also said they found sign of rape in inquest report. Actual reason of death would be known after completion of autopsy report, he added.
