Bangladesh, Jordan keen to strengthen bilateral trade ties

Bangladesh and Jordan have expressed keenness to work together in strengthening bilateral trade relations between the two countries.

Bangladesh Ambassador Nahida Sobhan and Jordanian Industry, Trade and Supply Minister Maha Ali expressed the eagerness when the Bangladesh envoy met Maha Ali at her ministry office in Jordan on Tuesday, said a press release here today.

Assistant Secretary General of the Jordan Ministry of Trade, Industry and Supply Zaher Al-Qatarneh and First Secretary of the Bangladesh Embassy in Jordan Muhammad Bashir were present at the meeting.

During the meeting, Nahida said that there are a lot of scopes to strengthen trade relations between Bangladesh and Jordan and expressed her firm keenness to work together with Jordan to this end.

The Bangladesh envoy also expressed eagerness to exchange business delegations between the two countries to explore more opportunities by both the countries.

Observing that it might not be possible to conduct such physical visits right now due to the COVID19 situation, she proposed for starting such discussions from May 2021 between business communities through webinar, where relevant business people can participate from both sides.

Such meetings could later be followed up by exchanging delegations when the global pandemic situation would be over, Nahida said, adding that Bangladesh Embassy is ready to facilitate such meetings.

Jordanian Industry, Trade and Supply Minister Maha Ali praised the idea and showed keen interest in this regard.

Maha Ali said that her Ministry and the Bangladesh Embassy could work together to prepare concept note and agenda for the webinar to make it fruitful.

Both the ambassador and the minister praised the women empowerment in their respective countries.

During the meeting, the Bangladesh ambassador presented some leather goods as gift to the minister and gave a short brief about the leather industry in Bangladesh and its potentialities.

Nahida informed the minister that currently, Bangladesh is 8th largest global exporter of leather products and leather.
