National Film Award winning music director Shawkat Ali Emon tortured his wife and kicked her out of home as she refused to give Tk 10 lakh dowry.
Investigation officer Tahmina Rahman made the disclosure in the charge sheet of a case filed against Emon by his wife. The charge sheet has recently been submitted before Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court.
In the plaint, the police official said, accused Shawkat Ali Emon is greedy of dowry and aggressive person. Primary investigation revealed that he had been tortured wife Ridita Reza physically and mentally demanding dowry since their marriage in February last year.
"In continuation of it, Emon sought Tk 10 lakh dowry from Ridita at his Eskaton Garden residence around 11:30pm on July 3 last year. He beat up her and kicked out of home after she refused to give so," she said.
Earlier on September 20, 2020, Ridita Reza filed a case with Ramna Police Station accusing her husband Emon of torturing her for dowry.
Following the case, police arrested him on September and on the following day produced him before Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court.
The court, later, ordered to send him to jail.
On October 1 last year, Dhaka's Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Kaysarul Islam granted bail to him after a hearing.
