Indictment hearing in Sayedee’s fund embezzlement case Jan 11

A court here today set January 11 to hold hearing on charge framing in a case against six including convicted war criminal Jamaat-e-Islami’s Naib Ameer Delwar Hossain Sayedee for embezzling funds of Islamic Foundation (IF).

Today was fixed for indictment hearing in the case in temporary Dhaka Special Judge Court-1 in city’s Bakshibazar Alia Madrasa ground, reports BSS. 

But Judge Syeda Hosne Ara of the court granted a time plea filed by the accused lawyer and fixed the new date for hearing after Sayedee was produced before it.

The other 5 accused in the case are – Mohammad Lutful Haque, former director of the IF, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, former chairman of the Mosque Council for Community Advancement, Mia Mohammad Yunus, chief editor of the Bandhujan Parishad, Tofazzal Hossain, former president of the Islamic Social Welfare Center and Mohammad Abdul Haq, assistant director of the IF’s mosque council.

Among the accused, Delwar Hossain Sayedee is in jail after being convicted in the case lodged for crimes against humanity while Abul Kalam Azad and Abdul Haq are absconding.

The other three accused are on bail.

Ayub Ali Chowdhury, former director (finance and accounting) of the foundation, filed the case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station on May 24, 2010 for their alleged involvement in misappropriating the IF Zakat funds.

Following the investigation, ACC assistant director Wazed Ali Gazi submitted the charge sheet in the court on April 30, 2012.

On August 19, 2011, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) also filed another case against Sayedee in alleging tax evasion of Tk 56,46,812 .

The court framed charges in the case on September 15 in the following year.
