29 Bangladeshis returning from Pakistan

Twenty-nine Bangladeshi nationals, who were released from Malir and Karachi jails in Sindh province of Pakistan, will be brought back home on Wednesday, reports UNB.

The Foreign Ministry took the initiative to bring them back.

Besides, eight more Bangladeshis, who were released from Malir jail, will return home with the financial assistance of the Foreign Ministry on Thursday.

These Bangladeshis worked legally on a fishing boat in Oman. Strong current sent the fishing boat into Pakistan maritime territory where they were arrested by the coast guard in 2019.

Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen supervised the issue directly to bring them back within the shortest possible time. He approved financial assistance for them to travel home.

Bangladesh has been in continuous discussion with the Pakistan Home Ministry, Pakistan Foreign Ministry and the authorities concerned of Malir jail.

The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and Bangladesh Red Crescent Society are also involved in the repatriation process.

The Foreign Ministry of Bangladesh has started the repatriation process after an eight-year long gap on November 25.

Recently, five Bangladeshi nationals have returned home from Pakistan.
