Man beaten to death over land dispute

A man was beaten to death allegedly by his rivals over land dispute in Fulbaria upazila of Mymensingh district on Sunday afternoon.

Deceased Nur Mohammad Nuru, 53, was a resident of Baruka Uttarpara village in the upazila. 

Fulbaria Police Station officer in-charge Md Azizur Rahman said Nur Mohammad and his cousin Abdul Kuddus had been at loggerheads over homestead.

As a sequel to, Nur Mohammad was threatened to be killed around a month ago that forced him to leave the home. And subsequently he lodged a case in this connection.

In association of police, he went home today, and police suggested him and his cousin to live peacefully, the OC said.   

After the law enforcers left the home, Nur Mohammad and Abdul Kuddus locked into an altercation around 4pm over filing the lawsuit. At one stage, the former was left critically injured by beating.

Later, he died on the way to Fulbaria Upazila Health Complex, OC Azizur also said. 

The upazila health complex on-duty doctor Dr Manik Kumar De said Nur Mohammad was brought to the facility as dead. There were injury marks on head, neck and back of the body, he added.

The body was sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital morgue.

The police official, however, said two people were detained in connection with the murder.
