Coronavirus deaths hit three-month record

In the last 24 hours, Bangladesh government has reported 40 deaths from coronavirus, the highest number of fatalities from the virus in last three months. 

With this, the country's COVID-19 death toll rose to 7,129, the Directorate General of Health Services said in a press release. 

In the past day, 1,877 more people were diagnosed with the virus, raising the total infection to 4,94,209.

Of the total patients, 4,26,729 recovered, with 2,884 made recovery in the last 24 hours.

The daily count came from test of 19,054 samples in the past day. With this, total sample test stood at 30,05,512.

Bangladesh first reported its COVID-19 cases on March 8. Since then the country has been struggling to limit spread of the highly contagious virus.

Coronavirus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year, and then spread to newer countries and territories.

As of Saturday, the epidemic infected 73,270,606 people and killed 1,630,029 across the globe, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.

However, total number of people who recovered from the coronavirus pandemic reached 51,413,632 across the world.
