Shah Rukh donates 500 Remdesivir injections for Covid-19 patients in Delhi

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has donated 500 Remdesivir injections used in the treatment of Covid-19 patients.

Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain thanked the actor and his NGO Meer Foundation for the gesture and said that the help came "when it was needed the most".

The Ministry of Health has allowed the use of Remdesivir for restricted emergency purposes in patients in the moderate stages of the Covid-19 under “investigational therapies” in its Clinical Management Protocols for the disease.

WHAT DID SATYENDAR JAIN POST?

On Thursday, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain took to Twitter to thank Shah Rukh Khan. In his tweet, he wrote, "We are extremely thankful to Sh @iamsrk and @MeerFoundation for donating 500 Remdesivir injections at a time when it was needed the most. We are much obliged for the support extended by you during the time of crisis (sic)."

COVID-19 CASES IN DELHI

Satyendar Jain also told reporters that the third wave of Covid-19 pandemic in the national capital is not over yet but it is "definitely on the wane". Delhi recorded 2,463 new cases of coronavirus and 50 fatalities on Wednesday, the lowest number of deaths in a single day since November 1.

As the positivity rate slipped to 3.42%, Satyendar Jain tweeted that it was heartening to see that the national capital is "emerging victorious" in the battle against the coronavirus.

SHAH RUKH KHAN CONTRIBUTIONS FOR FIGHT AGAINST COVID-19

This is not the first time Shah Rukh Khan has donated for the fight against Covid-19. In April, his companies - Kolkata Knight Riders, Red Chillies Entertainment, Meer Foundation and Red Chillies VFX - contributed to a number of relief funds, including the PM-Cares Fund and Maharashtra Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, among others.

In a tweet, Shah Rukh wrote, "In these times it’s imp to make everyone around u working tirelessly for u.. not related to u.. perhaps even unknown to u... to feel they are not alone and by themselves. Let’s just make sure we all do our little bit to look after each other. India and all Indians are One Family."

In November, Shah Rukh Khan donated 20,000 N-95 masks to Kerala. State Health Minister KK Shailaja thanked SRK for his kind gesture.
