The residents of Sylhet city and suburban areas are going without power for 27 hours now until Wednesday afternoon as the authorities concerned say it is unlikely that power supply will be restored soon to all the affected areas.
Power outage has triggered water shortage in many households and many are struggling to keep their cellphones on.
Engineer Khandaker Mozammel Hossain, Power Development Board (Selling & Distribution), Sylhet, said 400 workers are working to restore the power connection, reports UNB.
“There’s a chance to resume power supply to two or one area within this (Wednesday) evening,” he said.
A massive power outage gripped Sylhet city and its suburban area since Tuesday morning after a fire broke out at 120MW Kumargaon Power Station.
Deputy Commissioner M Kazi Emdadul Islam said the local administration announced about the prolonged power cut across the district to minimise public hazards.
“A specialised committee will be formed to investigate the cause of the fire and assess damages,” he said.
Already, a three–member probe body was formed to look into the matter. The committee has been asked to submit its report within three working days.
