Court frames charges against Prothom Alo editor, 8 others

A Dhaka court has framed charges against Prothom Alo’s editor Matiur Rahman and eight others in a case filed over the death of Nayeemul Abrar, a ninth grader students of Dhaka Residential Model College (DRMC).

Judge KM Imrul Kayesh, of the Metropolitan Session Judge Courts’ in Dhaka passed the order on Thursday. 

The court also acquitted Kishore Alo editor Anisul Haque in the case. 

Earlier on October 1, the same court accepted the charge sheet against Prothom Alo’s editor and nine others in the case.

On November 1, 2019, Nayeemul was electrocuted by a power generator on the premises of DRMC, during an anniversary celebration organized by Prothom Alo’s youth magazine Kishor Alo.

In a case filed over Nayeemul’s death, his father Md Mojibur Rahman accused the organizers of negligence that led to the incident.

The accused include - Prothom Alo’s Editor Matiur Rahman, youth magazine Kishor Alo’s Editor Anisul Hoque and Prothom Alo employees Kabir Bakul, Shuvashish Pramanik Shuvo, Md Mahitul Alam Pavel, and Shah Paran Tushar.
