Veteran Bengali actor Soumitra Chatterjee's health condition remained critical on Sunday and he was given a blood transfusion after his haemoglobin count fluctuated considerably, one of the doctors attending to the actor said in a statement.
85-year-old Soumitra Chatterjee was admitted to a private hospital in Kolkata about 25-days ago after he tested positive for Covid-19. But due to co-morbidities and his age, his fluctuating health has been a cause of concern for the team of doctors treating him, reports India Today.
SOUMITRA CHATTERJEE WAS GIVEN BLOOD TRANSFUSION
Soumitra Chatterjee was given blood transfusion on Sunday after his haemoglobin count fluctuated. This was due to internal bleeding, the doctor confirmed. “His bleeding part is not contained or controlled fully. His haemoglobin is fluctuating. We had to transfuse four units of blood. We had to do a CT to find out his exact internal bleeding location. We are trying to seal the bleeding spot which is yet to be fully successful,” the doctor told PTI.
SOUMITRA CHATTERJEE'S NEUROLOGICAL ISSUES ARE A CAUSE OF CONCERN
Doctors are trying to "optimise" Soumitra Chatterjee's organ functions. Apart from that, his neurological issues have not been treated fully to the point of his recovery and that is what doctors believe is the reason behind Soumitra Chatterjee’s general non-improvement of consciousness status. Soumitra Chatterjee has been on ventilator support since last week.
DOCTORS SAY SOUMITRA CHATTERJEE'S HEALTH IS IMPROVING
Doctors say that Soumitra Chatterjee’s organ functions are holding on, he is putting on urine and the oxygen levels in his body are also satisfactory.
In Sunday's afternoon bulletin, the doctor said that they were considering giving him another dialysis, the third one since Wednesday.
There were two sessions of dialysis conducted on Soumitra Chatterjee, and now his vital parameters are stable due to the same.
However, Soumitra Chatterjee's lungs are doing fine and the infection is not that bad.
SOUMITRA CHATTERJEE TESTED POSITIVE FOR CORONAVIRUS ON OCTOBER 6

However, he was moved to the ITU and was put on oxygen support on October 9 after his health condition deteriorated drastically. He was also given plasma therapy on October 11.
Soumitra Chatterjee, who debuted in the Bengali film industry with Satyajit Ray's Apur's Sangsar or The World Of Apu, is a Dada Saheb Phalke-awardee, and the first Indian film personality to be conferred with the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, France’s highest civilian award.
