Dhaka-7 MP Haji Selim's son Mohammad Irfan Selim has been suspended as councillor of Ward no. 30 of Dhaka South City Corporation.
The Local Government Division on Tuesday night issued the suspension order following a RAB mobile court jailed Irfan for one year for possessing illegal walkie-talkies and liquor.
According to the Local Government (City Corporation) Act, a public representative faces suspension if he is convicted by court.
The Rapid Action Battalion raided the MP's house on Monday after a navy officer, Lt Md Wasif Ahmed Khan, accused Irfan of assaulting him and his wife on Sunday.
In the raid, the elite force found liquor and walkie-talkies there, and then sentenced him one year jail.
Over the assault, however, a criminal case was lodged accusing seven people, including Irfan.
