Jago News gets registration certificate

Country's leading online news portal jagonews24.com has received its registration certificate from the government.

Surath Kumar Sarker, principal information officer of Press Information Department, handed over the certificate to the portal's acting editor Mohiuddin Sarker at the Secretariat on Thursday.

Earlier on July 30, the Ministry of Information published a list of 34 online news portals for giving registration to the ones after scrutiny by the government agencies.

In a reaction, Jago News acting editor Mohiuddin Sarker said, "We are very glad that the government has finally done the job of registration. I think government's this move will make mass media more responsible and integrated."

With commitment of fareless investigative journalism and highest use of modern technology, Jago News started its journey in 2014.

In span of six years, it turned itself into one of the most popular online news portal in the country.

The portal now has over 40 lakh followers in facebook, and stands sixth among Bangladeshi most popular websites in Alexa ranking.

The government made it mandatory for all online newspapers to be registered with a view to, it said, stopping 'yellow journalism and ensure government support.
